Description:

A Shepparton Retirement Village seeks a Gardener who will report to the Head Gardener to assist with planning and execution of small scale landscaping operations and maintenance of grounds and residences as well as the common areas within the village.

MAIN DUTIES

  •  To undertake all work, tasks and duties allocated by the Supervisor or Estate Manager
  •  To attend and participate in regular planning meetings as directed by Estate Manager;
  •  The careful use of materials and the maintenance of equipment to required standards;
  •  Submit any requests for purchase of machinery or equipment   
  •  To communicate effectively with the Supervisor and colleagues
  •  The observance of all Workplace Health and Safety policies and procedures and the reporting of hazards to the Manager;
  •  To complete all necessary paperwork/records accurately and to deadline;
  •  To work effectively and efficiently as part of a team;
  •   Sound working knowledge of Estate sprinkler systems;
  •   Construction of link walls in the Estate as and when required.

  • Maintenance of sprinkler systems

  • Cleaning and maintaining equipment
  • Operation of bobcat, tractors etc
  • Assembling poly pipe irrigation systems
     

KNOWLEDGE   

  •    A genuine interest in grounds maintenance duties;
  •    A basic understanding of English and Mathematics;
  •    An advanced understanding of gardening techniques would be advantageous;
  •    An above average knowledge of plant names and types;
  •    Necessary licences for the operation of machinery e.g. Bobcat;
  •    Knowledge of any State or Federal legislation on equipment operation e.g. registration of vehicles for operation on roads;
  •    A current driver’s licence;
  •    A current first aid certificate – desirable;
  •    A basic knowledge of health and safety legislation – essential.
